Things to do instead of scrolling social media


 
This post is completely inspired by my internet best friend and my complete rock in life, Louise (louisechatters.com). She is absolutely brilliant and I go to her for anything and everything and I couldn't be more grateful to have someone as warm and kind as her in my life. But anyway, she wrote a post called "5 things to do instead of scrolling social media" and it really hit home with me. This day and age we are constantly reaching for our phones, scrolling twitter and instagram and then picking up our phones again to do exactly the same thing 5 minutes later. I am not that bad at this but I could definitely be better so I'm going to try and make a conscious effort to pick up my phone less and add a bit of variety into my life. So here are some things you can do instead of scrolling through your phone for 12 hours of the day!



1. Spend time with loved ones
This is an absolute no brainer for me. If I'm with someone I love then I rarely feel the need to pick up my phone and scroll through social media. As soon as Dan and I first got together I found myself looking at my phone less because I just wanted to be in the moment with him and I think that is so so important especially in newer relationships. I also hardly ever look at my phone when I'm with my little brother or sister because I don't get to see them that often and I don't want to waste a single second of it.

2. Read a book or magazine or anything
I am absolutely terrible at reading. I have a short attention span and I get bored so easily. But I absolutely love the idea of reading and buying books so I have a little collection of books I've bought (some of them months ago) and never actually read. So my little goal to myself is going to be to read a little bit every day, even if it is just a couple of pages.

3. Annoy your pet
I do this so often when I'm bored and feel like there's nothing more to scroll on social media but I could start doing it instead of scrolling social media (which is the whole point of this post). I'm sure Tilly doesn't love me annoying her as much as I love doing it but....I do give her lots and lots of kisses and cuddles!

4. Get some air
I don't mean go for some crazy hike up a mountain but just a quick 15 minute walk around the block or down a local canal (i do this a lot) will do. Just getting some fresh air in your lungs and getting your body moving is a great thing to do instead of mind numbingly scrolling through countless apps.


5. Practise hair and make-up
I absolutely love practising doing my hair and doing different make-up looks in my spare time. It really relaxes me and it makes me feel like I've accomplished something especially seeing as I'm now training to be a make-up artist! It is also a great way to engage the creative part of your brain!
